What we hold, and who else sees it.
This page describes what the software actually does. Where a common claim would be flattering but not quite true, we say the less flattering thing instead.

Inner Voice is no longer offered and its trial sign-up is closed. This page still describes it because data collected while it was open is still held, and the rights below still apply to it.
The short version
- Inner Voice: your entries are encrypted in transit and at rest. We hold the key — this is not end-to-end encryption.
- What you write and say in Inner Voice is sent to OpenAI to produce the responses. That is how the app works, and it is the most important thing on this page.
- Inner Map is different: your answers stay in your browser session. They are not sent to us or to OpenAI, and it does not ask for an email or account.
- No advertising SDKs, no analytics scripts, no third-party trackers. Not one.
- In Inner Voice, you can export everything or delete everything, whenever you want.
What Inner Voice sends to OpenAI, specifically
Inner Voice reads what you write and answers. It cannot do that without sending the text somewhere, and that somewhere is OpenAI's API. The features that send content are:
- The daily entry — the text of the entry.
- The weekly review — the entries from that week, together.
- Ground — the whole conversation, turn by turn.
- Onboarding — what you answer on day one.
- Asking your own history a question — the question and the entries it draws on.
- The profile — the entries used to build and refresh it.
- Voice — the audio recording itself, transcribed by Whisper.
Your email address and your access code are not sent with any of it. OpenAI receives the text, not who wrote it.
We do not use your entries to train anything, and we have not agreed to let anyone else do so either. If that ever changes, it changes here first and we will say so plainly rather than widening a sentence until it covers it.
Encryption, said precisely
Inner Voice entries travel over HTTPS and are stored encrypted. The key is held on our side, which means we can technically read your entries. We are telling you this because the alternative — implying end-to-end encryption — would be false.
There is a reason it works this way, and it is not laziness: with end-to-end encryption, forgetting your password would cost you every entry you have ever written, with no way back. We chose recoverable over unreadable. That badge is worth less than it looks anyway — an app can carry it and still send every entry to a server the moment it adds an AI feature.
What Inner Voice stores
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your entries, commitments and reviews | They are the product. Without them there is nothing to come back to. | Until you delete them or close the account |
| Your email address | Access, your weekly reminder, and account mail | Until you close the account |
| Your access code | It is what opens the app | Until you close the account |
| Your profile | Patterns drawn from your own entries, so the app doesn't start from zero each time | Until you delete it or close the account |
| Counts — entries written, weeks reviewed | To know whether the thing works at all | While the account is open |
What we deliberately do not store: any record of who you are beyond an email address, anything bought from a third-party profile, anything about you gathered from anywhere other than what you typed into this app.
Who else is involved with Inner Voice
| Who | What they handle |
|---|---|
| OpenAI | The text and audio you write or record, to produce the responses |
| Netlify | Hosting, and storage of the encrypted data |
| Payhip | Payment. Your card details go to them and never reach us |
| Resend | Sending email — your access code and reminders |
| Make | Connecting a purchase to an account being created |
That is the whole list for Inner Voice. There is no sixth party we left out because it seemed minor.
What you can do
- Export everything — from Settings, at any point, as a file you keep.
- Delete everything — and it deletes. Entries, profile, email, code and counts. It is not a flag that hides you from a screen.
- Use it without voice — if you never record anything, no audio ever leaves your device.
If you want any of this and cannot find it, write to us and we will do it.
The trial form that used to be on this site
While the trial was open, a form on the Inner Voice page collected one thing: your email address, so we could send you a trial code. It was handled by Netlify Forms. The form has been removed and the trial is closed, so nothing is being collected there any more. The addresses given at the time are still held: write to us and we will delete yours.
Children
This is not built for under-18s and we do not knowingly hold their data.
Inner Map
Inner Map is public and runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are kept temporarily in that browser session so the test can move from one situation to the next and build the result. They are not sent to us, to OpenAI or to any other service, and the test does not ask for an email address or an account. When that browser session ends, that session data goes with it.
Asking us anything
Write to us from the contact section. Questions about what we hold get a straight answer, including the awkward ones.
